Students and Teaching Partnerships
As a teaching practice associated with the University of Bristol Veterinary School, final year vet students will accompany our vets on nearly all visits. The benefits to our clients of the students attending calls is not only that we are contributing to training vets of the future, but also that the students can provide extra hands to catch and handle animals, as well as assist with certain procedures (always under the guidance of our vets).
While we endeavour to make all calls as efficient as possible there are sometimes that student teaching or students performing examinations or procedures (with client consent) that may take slightly longer. For this reason many procedures (e.g. castrates or disbudding) are priced ‘per item’ so that the price remains the same no matter the time taken. Additionally, if time is taken on a call for student teaching, this will be deducted from the chargeable time.
In some cases farms or holdings may be eligible for further fee reductions of up to 25% by being a ‘teaching partnership farm’, see below for details.
