When he came to us he was exceptionally sick, with marked weight loss, frequent periods of vomiting and inappetence and he had a very extensive primary thyroid tumour. We are one of only three UK radioiodine centres able to treat thyroid carcinoma; this is more complex than standard radioiodine treatment due to the very high doses of radioactive iodine required, which can cause transient side-effects that are rarely seen in standard hyperthyroid radioiodine treatment.

Grimalkin did have mild radiation side-effects initially with a sore throat but he responded well to supportive treatment and sailed through his stay at the Feline Centre. He was a star patient with a big personality, purring through his whole journey. Six months post treatment we are delighted to share that he is doing well, with weight gain (1.3kgs!) a great appetite and control of his concurrent intestinal disease too. We look forward to following Grimalkin's progress over the coming months and years.
