Merlin - Canine Hydrotherapy

Merlin's Journey at Langford Vets

History - Merlin was referred to the orthopaedic team after he was reviewed at his local vets where he presented ongoing right forelimb lameness. X-rays of his forelimbs were inconclusive and when he was presented to the orthopaedic team at Langford Vets he displayed signs of discomfort with manipulation of both elbows. He demonstrated difficulty rising after rest and was graded as 5/10 lame on the right forelimb with mild lameness in the left also noted.
Investigations – A CT scan of both elbows was performed and documented bilateral medial coronoid disease with fragmented right side as well as signs of mild bilateral degenerative new bone formation.
Treatment – A right elbow arthroscopy was performed, and the fragment was removed. Post surgery Merlin was provided with a course of Metacam and strictly rested for 6 weeks.

Outcome – Merlin is now enjoying long, off lead walks and particularly loves playing in the woods. He continues to attend hydrotherapy for maintenance work to ensure he maintains his strength and mobility.
