Nellie was a young, full of excitement, Border Collie that presented to Langford Vets after an unknown injury to her foot. Following admission to Langford Vets she had a few days of wound management after which a significant amount of skin had died and was removed. The extent of skin loss almost required amputation of the limb. To avoid amputation, our Soft Tissue Surgery Team used negative pressure wound therapy prior to performing a free skin graft, taking skin from her abdomen and transplanting it onto the foot. After two weeks post-operatively, a month in total within the hospital the skin graft had healed, and Nellie went on to use the foot well with no lameness.
