Cat Friendly Clinic
The Feline Centre at Langford Vets is proud to be recognised as an International Society of Feline Medicine Gold Standard Cat Friendly Clinic. The core aim of being a cat friendly clinic is to ensure a compassionate and stress-free hospital visit for all cats and caregivers visiting us.
We were the first referral hospital in the UK to be awarded the gold standard accreditation for our fantastic feline-only dedicated facilities, including our waiting room, procedures rooms and wards.
The Cat Friendly Clinic Gold Standard is more than buildings and rooms, it is also about our approach to working with cats, understanding their behaviour and respecting their individual boundaries.
Considerate Approach
We know it is often small adaptions that can make a big difference to cats, for example a slow hands-off approach for anxious cats, finding the right treat for distraction during procedures, using quiet coat clippers and local anaesthetic before taking a blood sample, using Feliway™ pheromone in all rooms, providing access to hiding and perching spaces in cages, and working in quiet rooms away from other patients.

We have both vet and nurse ISFM Cat Advocates who help maintain the Cat Friendly Clinic culture across the hospital and we are passionate about providing the highest standard of care for cats with our cat friendly work. Our nursing team get to know the cats quickly to understand their individual requirements for successful stress-free handling.

We see the benefits of this cat friendly approach every day and this is incorporated into our veterinary student training, to enable more vets and nurses to take this forward into their working practice after graduation. It is the combination of our cutting-edge feline facilities, equipment, veterinary team, and cat friendly working approach that enable us to provide a gold standard experience for our feline friends.

Cat Friendly Waiting Room
We have dedicated feline-only facilities including our waiting room, which is a serene room away from canine patients.
We have raised spaces to place cats in carriers on to allow them to feel more secure, and we provide large towels that have been sprayed with FeliwayTM to cover the carrier, which can help the cat to settle more before their examination. We recognise this is an important step in minimising any wind up of stress and anxiety in the cat's hospital experience.
We look after you too! The room has comfortable sofas for owners as well as a hot drinks machine so clients can pause after a journey to our centre before meeting our veterinary team.
