Pre Purchase Examinations (Vettings)
A pre-purchase examination is a thorough evaluation of the horse and its suitability for its intended purpose. Our vets have extensive experience in guiding you through this process and will discuss with you the risks of any findings from the vetting.
We perform most pre-purchase examinations at the vendor’s property, providing there are suitable facilities present to be able to perform a thorough evaluation (dark area required to examine the eyes and suitable surfaces on which to examine the horse’s gait). The clinic provides the ideal facilities to carry out pre-purchase examinations should these not be present at the vendor’s property.
Our vets are willing to travel outside our normal area to perform vettings for our clients. Please contact the office to discuss this further.

In the majority of situations a 5 stage vetting is most suitable; a 2 stage vetting only can be carried out on request and requires the purchaser to sign a disclaimer recognising its limitations.
Insurance companies often require pre-purchase examinations to be undertaken in order to insure the horse, so check with your insurance company what requirements they have prior to the vetting; horses above a certain value often require radiographs to be taken.
