Interested in this role?

This position is a fixed-term four-year post beginning in late January 2025, during which you will study for the European Diploma in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. Specialist training will be given in all relevant modalities and full support offered to fulfil the credentials requirements of the ECVDI. You will form a vital part of the imaging department’s clinical service and will assist with teaching of vet and vet nursing students. Engagement with clinical research is expected and encouraged. Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK, have at least two years post-graduate experience, and ideally have undertaken both general practice work and a recognised rotating internship.

Job Purpose

  • To support the function of the Small Animal Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Department by assisting with the acquisition and interpretation of imaging studies
  • To provide excellent care for patients.
  • To communicate and liaise effectively with staff working within other services to ensure cases are managed appropriately and efficiently.
  • To assist with clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate students and junior clinical training scholars (interns) as and when required.
  • To meet the requirements for credentials set by the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • To acquire and interpret diagnostic studies for Small Animal Hospital patients, under the supervision of the imaging department Diplomates.
  • To provide advice on appropriate use of imaging in hospital patients, as appropriate for experience level.
  • To work with multidisciplinary teams to provide excellent care for all patients.
  • To perform studies and procedures to the standards expected by the RCVS for a referral teaching hospital.
  • To record all case records accurately and ensure the correct pricing and charging of all procedures.
  • To follow all Langford Vets protocols and policies.
  • To contribute to the teaching, supervision and assessment of students on their practical rotation when applicable.
  • To take part in provision of out of hours imaging support, up to a maximum of one in four weekends and evenings.
  • To contribute to journal club, book club, resident rounds and other scholarly activities on a shared rota
  • To undertake any reasonable requests made by the service clinical leads and hospital management.
  • To proactively identify and act upon opportunities for business improvement. Openly identify and discuss problems in order to implement and sustain improvements that increase the value we deliver to our, clients, employees, and students.
  • Responsible for keeping themselves and others safe, reporting accidents, near misses and hazards and adhering to health and safety requirements and policies as required by the business/their line manager.

At least two years working as a veterinary surgeon, with at least some of this time spent in first opinion practice

Additional experience / training in ultrasound

Completion of a recognised rotating internship

Experience in acquisition/interpretation of advanced imaging (CT/MRI)
