Langford Vets’ Small Animal Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Clinician in Cardiology to join our team. This role is suited to someone who has completed a residency in Cardiology and is looking to consolidate their skills in the first 1 – 2 years post-residency.  

This opportunity offers the benefit of working within a large, modern, multi-disciplinary referral hospital with state-of-the-art equipment and enthusiastic and forward-thinking colleagues in a beautiful area of the UK.  Our Cardiology Service is well established with a broad and interesting caseload, including interventional cases. We have a GE Vivid E95 that has 4D capabilities, a transoesophageal probe with 4D capabilities for interventions, a GE Vivid iq and an EchoPAC workstation. We work closely with other services within the hospital, including anaesthesia, emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging, neurology, internal medicine, oncology, dermatology, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, behaviour and rehabilitation as well as an on-site diagnostic laboratory to provide exceptional patient care. 

We pride ourselves in our clinical teaching of undergraduate students and postgraduate interns and residents. Participation in teaching sessions for residents is expected. Study leave time is offered to support the Staff Clinician in preparation for their board examination.  

A veterinary qualification that can be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience of and enthusiasm for teaching and must have completed a residency in Cardiology.

Job Title: Staff Clinician in Cardiology

Reports To: Cardiology Clinical Lead

Job Purpose

· To provide an outstanding cardiology clinical referral service, as part of the Cardiology team

· To provide exceptional patient care

· To communicate and liaise effectively with staff working within the wider Cardiology team and other services within the hospital to ensure cases are managed appropriately and efficiently

· To demonstrate excellent communication skills with referring vets and pet owners

· To assist with clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate students as and when required

· To support resident training as part of the Cardiology team

· To continue to develop clinical skills and expertise to support specialist board examinations

Principal Accountabilities

· To ensure continuing success of the cardiology referral service, by provision of outstanding clinical and patient care, supported and mentored by the Cardiology senior team

· To work alongside and interdigitate with multidisciplinary teams, to provide excellent care for all patients

· To work collaboratively with other departments to facilitate internal patient transfers

· To provide support and supervision to the nursing, intern and resident teams, where appropriate

· To contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduate students on their clinical rotations

· To contribute to assessment and feedback for undergraduate veterinary and nursing students and post-graduate interns and residents where appropriate

· To perform patient assessments and interventions to the standard expected by the RCVS

· To maintain accurate case records, including the provision of discharge instructions and case reports in a timely manner and in aaccordance with our hospital policy

· To ensure that informed client consent is gained for patient interventions, and that owners are kept up to date with ongoing treatment costs

· To report laboratory results, Holter results and adjusted treatment plans to owners and referring vets in a timely manner

· To ensure charging is appropriate and complete, for each patient

· To provide advice to referring vets, to support wider patient care and maintain excellent relationships with referring practices

· To contribute to regular activities within the Cardiology team, such as book club, journal club other related cardiology activities

· To aim to submit for, and sit, specialist board examinations during the period of the Staff Clinician role

· Where applicable, to participate in provision of an out-of-hours rota

· To support growth and development of the service, by participating in the provision of continuing professional development and other outreach activities, where appropriate

· To follow all Langford Vets protocols and policies

· To follow Cat Friendly Practice and Dog Friendly Clinic principles and promote this standard of care at all times

· To undertake any reasonable requests made by the service Clinical Leads and hospital management

· Proactively identify and act upon opportunities for business improvement.

· Openly identify and discuss problems in order to implement and sustain improvements that increase the value we deliver to our clients, employees, and students.

· Be responsible for keeping themselves and others safe, report accidents, near misses and hazards and adhere to health and safety requirements and policies as required by Langford Vets.
